  • Uniform/Equipment - www.officialsports.com is the supplier to the United States Soccer Federation.  Starter packages are available.  You may find some referee gear at local sporting good stores and soccer shops, however their inventory is limited.  Proper uniform and equipment is required to do your job, do not delay in purchasing your gear.

  • Contact Assignor(s) - view the list of referee assignors for all youth clubs at CO Youth Soccer or visit the various club websites. for their assignor information.  You should initiate communication with the assignor(s).

  • Review the information provided by the assignor(s) and CO Youth Soccer for payroll instructions.  Complete required paperwork required by CO Youth Soccer and the assignor(s).

  • Prepare before the season - review Rules of Competition for recreational and competitive league games that you plan to work.  This information is found on CO Youth Soccer, club websites, and assignor websites.

  • Submit availability to referee!  Be sure to coordinate your personal calendar.  Assignors will prepare assignments around your playing, coaching, and personal schedules, but it is YOUR JOB as the referee to maintain accurate availability and provide your assignor with updates when your schedule changes.  Coordinate availability for multiple assignors, do not double book yourself.

Reminders:

Grade 9 Referees (Recreational Referee) - you are certified to work any recreational game that is age appropriate as the center referee and/or an assistant referee.  Grade 9 referees may be assigned as an assistant referee for appropriate level U14 and younger youth competitive games.  Your primary job will be to officiate recreational games, and you will be expected to work games as the center referee.

Grade 8 Referees - you are certified to work any youth recreational or competitive game that is age and level appropriate as the center referee or assistant referee.  Grade 8 referees also have the opportunity to officiate in adult leagues as you gain experience and as you feel comfortable.  This is a step you can discuss with the adult league assignors.

Resources - please take time to view the Resources Page for further information.  Being a referee is an ongoing learning experience.  It is important that referees keep up on the lastest materials and information provided to offer the teams their best game!
